Trace Visions / 003
This piece is a cyanotype monoprint finished with oil pigment and cold wax, mounted on 11″x14″x.5″ cradled birch board and ready to hang. The image is an original artwork that is part of the Trace Visions series, based on a photograph that I took somewhere in southwestern Kansas in 2017. The series explores my fascination with weathered, abandoned buildings and the human intentions that shaped them but are constantly succumbing to the marks of nature. They have me imagining old stories and personalities that struggle for relevance even as they relinquish control and allow themselves to be changed. The textures that emerge on the cusp of birth/death/transformation are to me the most beautiful.
Something about me
I’m a multimedia artist whose projects include fine art painting, photography, video production, metalworking and sculpture. Images in this series are based on my original photographs, then composed and adjusted digitally for the cyanotype process, and finally hand printed and painted in a traditional manner — very messy, unpredictable and thoroughly satisfying.
